The ScOop story

Our Founders: Alex & Stephanie

Stephanie and Alex Teece live just down the trail in Lafayette with their three kids and their black lab - a local family who believed in creating a neighborhood spot that brings together and invests in their local community.

Born and raised in the Bay, Stephanie is a practicing attorney and UC Law graduate whose creative side shines through in her photography, insane cookie-making & decorating skills, and matcha obsession.

Alex spent that past 15 years in Hawaii following Teach For America, founding and leading a charter school and non-profit, followed by a stint in management consulting at McKinsey, and finally as founder and leaders of the Scoop. He brings a passion for community, developing our young people, and entrepreneurial vision to each and every matcha and cone served.

Together, they’ve built Lafayette Scoop: a place where families, friends, and neighbors can gather - one scoop (or matcha) at a time.

Our story: more than ice cream

Lafayette Scoop was born with that simple idea in mind: building community. The experience and moment of going out for ice cream at a small, local, family-run ice cream shop - enjoying something sweet, and slowing down together. Call it nostalgia, call it family - we are committed to both.

Our commitment to Lafayette is hiring and developing exceptional talent, bringing the very best small-batch ice cream from around the Bay, and always serving up scoops with joy to create that nostalgic, joyful moment that you deserve.

Because joy is local, nostalgia is powerful, and the Scoop you remember should always be just around the corner. We are here, for you.

"The goal was to create a place of joy through investing in, and serving, the local community"

Our Manager: Emma

Emma brings serious frozen treat cred to The Scoop.

A University of Arizona graduate, she got her start in the retail and iced treat business at a local ice pop stand while in college, then later honed her skills behind the counter at Cold Stone Creamery. After completing Peet’s Coffee’s intensive management training program, she joined Lafayette Scoop to lead our team with a mix of hospitality, heart, and operational excellence.

A superstar in her own right (and younger cousin to founder Alex Teece), Emma is the steady hand (and big smile) behind every great shift at The Scoop. She is truly the heart of the Scoop.

Our Commitment

The Lafayette Scoop isn’t just located in Lafayette - it’s for Lafayette. This community is our home, and we are proud to invest in it every day: by hiring local high school students and young adults, partnering with neighborhood schools and nonprofits, and showing up for the events and traditions that make this town special. From family walks on the trail to Friday night scoops after a big game, our promise is to keep Lafayette at the heart of everything we do - growing roots deeper with every cone, every smile, and every moment shared with our incredible community.
